Jim Gregory was reared in the
small mountain town of Monteagle in East Tennessee. He grew up listening
to “Drummers” (salesmen) and local mountain
folk gather around the cracker barrel at “Uncle” Jim Francis’ general
store and swap lies. Everyone knew that they were lying but to catch someone
they had to be able to prove it.
Telling stories, swapping lies, making up tall tales, and making music comprised
most of the mountain folk’s entertainment, so it seemed only natural that
Jim should take up the art. He has been a professional storyteller for the last
fifteen years.
Jim has appeared at festivals and shows from South Florida north to Boston, west
to Leadville Colorado and on the “high seas” aboard Holland America
Cruise Lines in Alaska and the Northern Baltic. He is the president of the Miami
Story-tellers Guild for the fifth time, a member of the Florida Storytellers
Association's Board of Directors and was also a featured writer and storyteller
for WLRN’s Pandemonium Midnight Uprising.
Jim’s “Fast Bull” stories are designed
for listeners of all ages but best understood by older audiences.
He is available for performances
on a sliding rate scale.
